Skin Camouflage

Skin camouflage also known as Brazilian skin camouflage, skin repigmentation, stretch mark camouflage, or scar camouflage tattoo, is a permanent paramedical tattoo procedure that works by reducing the color contrast between your natural skin and the scar or mark, reducing its visibility almost completely and leaving you more confident and free. For this to work, we mix a custom blend of skin toned pigment to create the perfect color matching your skin tone, and then tattoo it over your undesired scar and / or stretch marks.

This is not a removal procedure, instead skin camouflage works by correcting the discoloration of your scars and stretch marks.

Skin Camouflage works over scars and marks that are lighter or darker than your natural skin tone. It can be used to cover surgery scars, injury scars, stretch marks, skin discoloration/hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation that are fully healed and at least 2 years old.

FAQs

  • Camouflage sessions are booked by the artist after your consultation appointment. All camouflage sessions require a free consultation that can be done in-person or through video. This 15 minute consultation will allow the artist to determine if you are a good candidate, provide you with the realistic expectations regarding your particular results, answer any concerns and review the pre-procedure and after care instruction.

  • Numbing is not used for skin camouflage. The pain is similar to a body art tattoo, however some scars may be more or less sensitive to pain. For example, tummy tuck scars can have no pain sensation at all while burn scars can be extremely sensitive to pain.

  • All scars and stretch marks heal differently depending on your skin type and body’s natural healing process. This will be reviewed at the consultation. Typically marks and scars will appear red for 3-7 days and can appear darker for 3-6 weeks before lightening up. The skin heals within 2 weeks, however pigment colors take up to 3-6 months to fully stabilize. While healing, it is important to keep the area moisturized with an ointment at all times.

  • Number of sessions cannot be determined beforehand, however there is a minimum of 2 session required.

  • Skin camouflage prices depend on the size of the area that you wish to camouflage. All priced will be thoroughly discussed and set during your consultation. Our prices range from $175 - $575 per session.

  • Skin camouflage is not a removal procedure. Tattoo pigment is implanted into the skin using colors that match your skin tone. This creates a camouflage effect that changes the color of your marks and scars, reducing its appearance. It does not change the texture of your mark/scar.

  • Skin camouflage sessions take up to 3 hours to complete and results are permanent. In somr cases minimal touch ups are recommenaed fter 5 years. This can vary depending on your lifestyle (ex. daily sun exposure can make results fade quicker).

  • Skin camouflage is not intended to change scar or stretch mark texture, our main focus is color correction. However, some scars and stretch marks can have an improvement in texture as well. This can be due our body’s natural collagen production after experiencing micro trauma such as the trauma caused by the tattoo needles implanting ink into the skin.

  • Your skin camouflage tattoo will not change colors in the sun, however the skin around the camouflage will still tan as normal. Although there will be a color difference between your tanned skin and your camouflage tattoo, your marks will still be less noticeable than they were before camouflage.

How does Skin Camouflage work?

Skin camouflage works by implanting tattoo ink over scars and stretch marks to change its color. By doing so, your scar or stretch mark will match the color of your skin, thus creating a camouflage effect by reducing its visibility. This tattoo technique can be used to cover light and dark scars. At Vidal Ink, we use a delicate technique to produce natural-looking results. Once your scar or stretch mark is camouflaged by us, you will not be able to see tattoo ink in your scar, it will look just like your skin. This delicate technique will require more than one session to camouflage your scar or stretch mark. We cannot guarantee how many sessions it will take to achieve your desired results due to every ones individual skin healing process. Although skin camouflage is not intended to change the texture of scars, some clients do see improvement in the texture of their scars due to the tattoo healing process. Once the ink is implanted into your skin, it is permanent. Skin camouflage will last forever with the exception of fading in areas that are exposed to a lot of direct sunlight or UV radiation and in high friction areas such as your hands and feet.

What to expect after your session

Skin camouflage is not a procedure that produces immediate results. Although you may be able to see some changes in your scars or stretch marks immediately, there will be swelling and redness on your scar or stretch marks for the first 3-7 days. While the swelling may subside within the first 3 days after your session, it is completely normal for redness to last up to 2 weeks after your session. The next phase of skin camouflage healing is what we call the darkening phase. During the next couple of weeks your scar or stretch mark may appear darker than it was initially, or slightly purple for the next 30 - 60 days after your session. Not every scar goes through this darkening phase, but if and how long it lasts depends entirely on the color of your scar or stretch mark, and your skins reaction to the pigment. After this phase your scar will heal fully, the pigment will stabilize in your skin, and you will enter the camouflage phase. Depending on your skins natural healing process, it may take scars and stretch marks a full 90 days to fully heal. Once you are fully healed (40-90 days) another session can be scheduled if needed.

We know this healing process is not ideal and it can be tough for some clients, so we are here for you throughout the entire healing process. You will have your before pictures to compare your scar to and we are always here to answer questions you have during healing. Client support is always our number one priority.
